Alumni-In-Film Discussion Series: Why Did You Kill Me?
The new Netflix true crime documentary Why Did You Kill Me? explores Crystal Theobald's tragic death and the extraordinary efforts her family made to ensure those involved in the 24-year-old's murder were held accountable.
Gang-related deaths in Riverside, California, are all too common, but what stood out in Theobald's case was how her mother, Belinda Lane, sought information about her killer through MySpace to catfish her daughter’s killers. Thanks to Lane's non-police sanctioned investigation, she found justice.
The panel discussion will include: producer/director Fred Munk ’05, Poly teacher Jean Belford, Poly’s Computer Sciences Department Chair who teaches Digital Life Skills. Lisa Friel P’10, P’12 past chief of the Manhattan District Attorney’s Sex Crimes Unit and present Special Counsel for Investigations at the National Football League will also join the panel. Robert Aberlin ’62, P’00, P’03 will moderate the discussion.
The film is available for viewing on Netflix.
